The emo-pop band that began its journey in 2004, is ending its voyage after seven albums and nearly 19 years. Why did most members leave Panic At the Disco?
The last remaining original member and the Lead vocalist Brendon Urie announced it on Instagram on Tuesday (24 January).
“ I am going to bring this chapter of my life to an end and put my focus and energy on my family, and with that Panic! At The Disco will be no more.” Urie wrote.
In the post, he announced that soon he will be going to be the father of his first child.
It started back in 2004, when Childhood friends Ryan Ross(guitarist), Brent Wilson (bassist), and Spence Smith(drummer) formed a band called Pet Salamander, then Summerleague Rock. Brendon Urie joined them as a high schooler at Panic! at the Disco.
Reasons behind the band split
1- “Lack of responsibility” and “Lack of musical progression”
Brent Wilson was the firm member who separated from the band in 2006. In an interview, Wilson claims he was “kicked out of the band” without warning and without any explanation and that the band’s decision to kick him out was done over the phone and only Spencer Smith spoke. Wilson also claims financial irregularity from the band’s tour.
But Panic! at the Disco claims that no decisions are made based on money. The decision was made due to Wilson’s “lack of responsibility” and lack of musical progression with the band.
Brent Wilson was replaced by Jon Walker.
2-Creative differences & lack of communication
According to Ryan Ross, the split had been in the cards for some time and it just took everyone a while to realize it.
Ross said the split was largely due to creative differences between him and Panic! frontman Brendon Urie.
Urie wanted the band to explore a more polished pop sound and Ross was interested in making retro-inspired rock. Ross was more influenced by Ray Davies, while Urie was more influenced by Peter Gabriel.
Ross also said the lack of communication between both camps came to a head and he and drummer Spencer Smith eventually realized that the best thing for all parties was to head their separate ways.
Jon Walker; Same as Ryan, he left for creative differences
In 2009 both Ross and walker left the band
3-Drug issue
Spencer Smith left the band on April 2, 2015, via the band’s official website, citing a need to settle his drug issues.
4- Sexual misconduct
Kenneth Harris was kicked out of the band because of Sexual misconduct allegation.
